Every campus has a Weekdays - <campus name> event that is active from 6 am until 8:30 pm each weekday. In addition to having the usual Bayside Kids, Youth, and Next Steps locations for checking in, the Weekdays events have Weekday Volunteer locations that cover all the ministry areas.
Campuses are equipped with a check-ins station at or near the reception desk so that all volunteers coming in Monday through Friday can check in correctly.
Checking in volunteers is important because the attendance shows on the activity tab on their profiles. It also provides a name tag, so that other staff and volunteers can call them by name, and it identifies them as a person who is authorized to be in the office areas.
If your volunteers are not on site for serving, like Care volunteers who do Hospital Visitation or Care Mentors, the ministry leader should plan to check them in on an iPad Check-ins station (without name tags) after the fact or even within a couple of days of serving. The important thing here is to document the service. As long as the volunteers are checked in during the time the Weekdays event is active (6 am - 8:30 pm) no special access or assistance from a Champion is needed. This works for Outreach volunteers, too.
